Hello all,

KQ4NTX, name is David. I'm a new operator -- received my technician ticket 2 weeks ago. To say I'm hooked is an understatement, I've already installed a 2m/70cm antenna in my attic (surreptitiously because of HOA), upgraded from my Yaesu FT-65r to an ICOM ID-50, and just set up my desktop base station which is a ICOM ID-5100. I'm also studying up for my general and very interested to dive into HF.

I've been lurking on the W4CQ repeater for a few weeks to learn my manners and thrown my callsign out just a few times. The QRM episode last night pushed me to and join up, get involved and help out. I'm a software engineer and engineering manager by trade and looking for ways I can use my skills to be of use. I've worn hats from backend, to frontend, infrastructure, cloud engineering, and big data/ML. I've already chatted with N4LMM about ways I can help with the Reverse Ranger program.

Anyway, glad to find such a strong community around a fun hobby and grateful to be here. Thanks for having me.

Glad to have you with us, David. I'm new too, and likewise addicted to the hobby. I started out with a Baofeng UV-5R handheld. It's been a crazy ride from there to where I am now, just a few months later.

Looking forward to chatting more on the air and meeting in person.

I started out with a Baofeng UV-5R handheld.

This was so close to being my first radio too. I stumbled across Ham Radio Crash Course's review of the Yaesu FT-65 which took me down that path as my first. Great little HT but programming it was a pain.

What are you working with now?

I still use the Baofeng, but I've got an ID-5100, an ID-7100, and an IC-7300. I started with the 5100 in the truck, but I'm going to switch things around and put the 7100 in the truck and have the 5100 in the shack.
