444.450 Down

Hey guys, here we are mid-August 2026. is there ANY update on the 444.450 repeater? Is it remaining closed down, is it being repaired, is it being replaced? It's been almost a year so I would hope SOMEONE would have some information by now.... Thanks!

It certainly has been a trying experience all around. We actually have two repeaters that can be used to replace the existingf machine. Tom has been diligently working on setting up the new replacement that has been discussed many times at the club meetings. It is checked out and ready to go. It took several months to obtain the repeater after the order was place becuse the repeater had to be built from scratch - not off the shelf.

Several months ago, Ted and I had multiple discussions with the management at WCNC to get access to the tower so that we could check out the cabinet and make sure that the new equipment would fit without difficulty. Just as we were about to get ready for that recon, WCNC advised that they needed to do routine maintenance on their tower, so that process introduced another 2-3 month delay.

Ted is now pursing dates when we can get up on the tower, perform our inspection, and then be in a position to replace the repeater and related components. Ted advised at the last club meeting that he was working with WCNC to find a mutually acceptable date for the inspection to begin. I am sure that Ted will let everyone know when that agreement has been reached and when tower access can happen. Following the recon, we should be in a position to replace the equipment which could take some time` because there is only a limited amount of space in the elevator to haul all of the eqquipment to the top.

We have also discussed putting the repeater at a temporary location so that cllub members can get back on the air and also to give the repeater a workout before moving it to the top. Decision on where or when this might hasppen is still under discussion.
